Don’t cry. Please, please, please don’t let him see me cry. I. Won’t. Cry.
I clenched my teeth together to stop a sob from escaping my lips. Despite my efforts to stop them, the tears flowed freely down my cheeks and left dark stains on the couch. I felt Jasper’s cool hand on my clenched fist. I rolled over and looked up at him through tear-filled eyes. The salty tears blurred my vision and I blinked a couple times to see him clearly, the fresh tears spilling over onto my blotchy face.
He leaned over and brushed my tangled hair away from my face. “What’s wrong?” he asked quietly, his caramel eyes full of concern. The familiarly strange feeling of contentedness spread throughout my body. Although I was feeling a lot calmer, the tears continued to fall. He leaned down even farther, careful not to crush me under his incredible strength, and placed his icy lips against my tearstained cheek.
